Recognition of academic achievements abroad

If you are studying abroad and don't want to lose any time, it is important that your academic achievements are recognised. Deal with this in good time and talk to your professor.

One of the aims of the Bologna Process is to increase the international mobility of students. According to the Lisbon Convention, the recognition of academic achievements may only be refused in the case of "substantial differences". The focus of the assessment is on learning outcomes and programme quality. The refusal of recognition must be justified (cf. Art. III.3 (5)) and the student has the right to appeal.

Despite possible challenges due to a lack of transparency, you should not be discouraged. The Neubrandenburg University of Applied Sciences has developed a clear process for recognising international credits, which is explained in the guidelines for students and international representatives.

Learning Agreement

The content of the modules that you complete at the partner university is specified in the learning agreement. The learning agreement must be signed by you, the home university and the host university before the start of your studies abroad. This is the legally binding confirmation that the selected courses/modules will be offered and recognised as academic credit after your return. If selected courses/modules are not recognised, this must be justified in writing in the appendix to the Learning Agreement. In the event of non-recognition, you have the right to appeal. In the event of last-minute changes to the course programme at your host university, the agreement can be amended within four weeks of arrival.
