Two projects have significantly shaped my knowledge and my strategic thoughts on small towns: A nationwide project with 21 model projects for the urban renewal of villages and small towns at the end of the 1980s. The results are still relevant today. And the accompanying research of eight small towns in rural regions from 2015 to 2018. We carried out youth bar camps and scenario processes on site and jointly formulated potentials and projects for cooperative small town development. The project was the starting point for a renaissance in small town research in Germany and a nationwide small town academy.

Research assistance for the research field "Potentials of small towns in peripheral locations, scenario processes in eight model projects". Commissioned by the Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR). 2015 - 2018.
